Keys to the Kingdom (Week 4)
In our series Keys to the Kingdom: The Secret Language of the Parables, we’re exploring Jesus’s teachings—hidden in story form—found in the gospel according to Mark.
Ice-Breaker: What's something you've learned that seemed impossible at first, but became enjoyable once you stopped worrying about mastering it all at once?
Read Mark 4:1-29.
1. The sermon suggests that wrestling with feelings of inadequacy shows a genuine desire to grow. How can we view our daily struggles as proof that we have "good soil" ready for God's work?
2. We are challenged not to be "fair-weather fans" who only engage when faith feels easy or beneficial. What could moving from a fan to a fully devoted follower look like in your daily routine?
3. The farmer scatters the seed and it grows mysteriously without his direct control. How does it comfort you to know your spiritual growth relies on the Holy Spirit rather than your own willpower?
4. Gamified piano learning succeeds by simply acting on the small, immediate prompts in front of you. What are some practical ways you can recognize and respond to the Holy Spirit's nudges this week?
Read John 15:4–5 and Galatians 5:22–23.
5. The message emphasizes that the fruit of the Spirit is not meant to hang on our branches like a trophy. How can you actively share a recent harvest of joy or patience with someone else today?
6. The reintroduced elk naturally restored a broken ecosystem just by doing what they were created to do. How does this inspire you to trust that simply living out your God-given purpose will transform your community?
7. The obvious pain and brokenness in our modern world can quickly lead to feelings of hopelessness. How could trusting in the Holy Spirit's unseen work help shift your perspective from discouragement to faithful action?
8. The parable notes that the farmer immediately harvests the ripe grain so it isn't lost. What is one specific area of ripe spiritual fruit in your life that you need to put to use right now?
