Keys to the Kingdom (Week 6)
In our series Keys to the Kingdom: The Secret Language of the Parables, we’re exploring Jesus’s teachings—hidden in story form—found in the gospel according to Mark. This week, please take 3 minutes to watch this video from the Bible Project on the prophets. It is referenced in the sermon and the podcast.
Icebreaker: If someone who knew nothing about Christianity observed your life for one week, what do you hope they would notice first?
Read Mark 12:1-7.
1. What does the vineyard reveal about God’s relationship, or covenant, with His people?
If you have not watched this Bible Project video about the prophets referenced in Pete’s sermon or the podcast, take 3 minutes to do so now.
2. How does this video make you think differently about biblical prophecy?
3. The prophets repeatedly called God's people back from injustice and idolatry. Why do you think these two issues were at the heart of their message? Where do you see those same temptations in our world today?
4. How have you thought of the concept of repentance during your life as a follower of Christ? How does the explanation of repentance from video as “to turn around” or to “change your mind” fit with this?
5. Jesus reserved some of His strongest criticism for the religious leaders rather than the surrounding culture. Why do you think He did that?
6. What does that teach us about the Church's role in being "salt and light" instead of simply criticizing the world around us?
7. Micah 6:8 calls God's people to "act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God." Which of those three challenges feels most timely or difficult for you right now? What is one practical step you could take this week to live it out?
