Normal People (Week 6)
In our series Normal People: Living an Ordinary Life with Extraordinary Grace, we’ll look at Paul’s words to the Thessalonians and receive the encouragement we need to embrace the normalcy of our lives, allowing the grace of God to do the extraordinary.
1. In his sermon, Shawn described life as “spinning plates” and showed a pie chart representing time, energy, and priorities. Which areas of life currently feel the hardest to balance for you, and why?
2. The Thessalonians struggled with spiritual insecurity and the feeling that they had to “keep God happy.” In what ways do people today still fall into that mindset?
Read 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12.
3. In this verse, Shawn highlighted both God’s role and our role. What stood out to you most about the difference between “God’s part” and “our part”?
4. Which of the following challenges you more:
trusting that “God’s got this,” or
accepting that faithfulness is often ordinary rather than dramatic?
5. Why do you think Christians sometimes feel pressure to do something extraordinary in order to matter to God?
6. The sermon emphasized that God is not just one “slice” of life, but present in every part of life. How can someone honor God in ordinary roles like parenting, work, school, friendships, or hobbies?
7. In his sermon, Shawn warned against confusing “good” with “perfect.” How can guilt, shame, or perfectionism keep us from experiencing God’s grace? What does “good enough with God’s grace” look like in a healthy way?
