No Vacancy (Part 3: “Hometown Zero”)

Welcome to our Advent and Christmas series, No Vacancy. Through this series, we will be seeking together to make room in our hearts and lives for our Savior this season.

For this series, we will begin our Primer Podcasts with the monologue from each Sunday’s service. If you missed Sunday, we encourage you to watch it below before beginning your group discussion!

Monologue Minute: Do you find yourself wanting God to look or act a certain way, to fit your expectations? Discuss what this looks like for you.

Opener: What place feels like “coming home” to you at Christmas time?

Read Luke 4:14-30.

1.In the passage today, the people of Nazareth had two main issues: they were inflexible in their understanding of who Jesus was, and they felt entitled to Jesus.

Which of these two do you feel most likely to fall into? Why?

2. How has your faith or understanding grown or changed significantly since childhood? What prompted that change?

3. Why is it so important to remain open to growing and changing in our perspectives? Why do you think it’s so hard for us to grow and change, especially when we’re called to challenge certain long-held beliefs?

4. In your group, discuss some areas of your faith in which you have grown or changed over the last year, or over the course of your life.

5. What are some blessings from God that you’re glad you didn’t fail to notice or appreciate?

6. Nazareth missed Jesus because they were inflexible and entitled, rather than humble.

What practices might help you stay grounded in gratitude and humility rather than in comparison and entitlement?
