“Be”: Psalm 23

This week, we pause our “Tangled Crown” series due to winter weather to reflect on Psalm 23.

1.When have your choices been dictated by circumstances outside your control? How did you feel? How did you respond?

2. In what ways does our culture put people in boxes? What are some social forces that you have found to be especially powerful? To what extent have you resisted these forces?

Read Psalm 23.

3. How does this famous psalm of David contrast with the forces of the world?

4. In his sermon Pete contrasts an American view of shepherding, with constrained sheep in a pen, with shepherding in Israel, reflected in the photo below. Study the photo and discuss how differences parallel the differences between cultural expectations and God’s expectations.

Read John 10:27-30.

5. Jesus is the Good Shepherd, and His sheep recognize His voice. When have you heard Jesus’s voice? Talk about or reflect on what this is like. What are some challenges you have in listening to the voice of Jesus?
