Be. (Nick Jordan)
This week in our special “Be” service, Nick Jordan explores the wonders of God’s creation, grace, and love through scripture and song.
Describe the last time you experienced awe and wonder. What caused this experience? What was it like?
Talk about an experience of awe that you remember from your childhood. Why do you think children have an easier time experiencing awe and wonder than adults?
What are some things that are most likely to lead you into awe and wonder? (Nature, Music, Art, Rollercoasters, etc.) How can you become more open to these experiences?
What do you make of the connection Nick makes between the awe and wonder of creation in Genesis 1, and its loss during “the fall” as told in Genesis 3?
Read Genesis 3:1-7 with this in mind. How does the human relationship with God’s creation seem to shift in this passage?
Finally, read Matthew 6:25-30. How does Jesus’ invitation to look at, or meditate on, the birds and the lilies also an invitation to return to a position of trust and awe in our Creator God?
Homework Assignment: Think about your answer to question 3. This week, if possible, go out and experience awe and wonder!
