Pray Boldly – Let God Lead

Welcome to our For Your Neighbor series. This week, we talk about what it looks like to let God lead by praying boldly for our community and beyond. To view our For Your Neighbor adult devotional, click here!

Ice Breaker: When something overwhelming or uncertain happens in your life, what’s your first instinct—pray, plan, or panic? Why do you think that is?

Have someone in your group read Acts 1:12–14 aloud then respond to the following questions:

1.The early disciples responded to Jesus’ mission—not with movement—but with stillness and prayer. What would it look like for you to pause and pray intentionally for your neighbors this week?

2. Who in your life do you naturally turn to for prayer? What would it look like to build a rhythm of prayer with those people?

Have someone in your group read Acts 2:41-47 aloud then respond to the following questions:

3. The early church was marked by deep community. Does your neighborhood feel like a community—or just a collection of homes?

4. What’s one way you could intentionally connect with a neighbor this week—perhaps over coffee, dinner, or a walk?

Have someone in your group read John 3:27–34 aloud then respond to the following questions:

5. In what areas of your life are you still trying to hold control instead of letting God lead?

6. Are there parts of your identity, your goals, or your image that you feel afraid to surrender to Jesus?

7. What does “becoming less” look like in your relationships—at home, at work, or at church?

8. What needs to shift in your mindset, your priorities, or your pocketbook so you can be for your neighbor?

Prayer Time:

In the podcast, Pete talks about the “prayer of indifference.” According to Ruth Haley Barton, this prayer is one that comes from a place where “we want God’s will—nothing more, nothing less, nothing else.” To close your time, practice this type of prayer together.

This week, you may want to take the following thoughts into prayer: What if the transformation you’re hoping to see in your community starts with a quiet moment of prayer in your living room? Jesus gave everything for His neighbor—you. Now He’s sending you to do the same.
