Storytellers (Fil Anderson)

We are kicking off our summer Storytellers series. This week, we’re excited to hear from our very own pastor of spiritual formation, Fil Anderson, as he dives into the story of our “prodigal” Father’s radical love.

  1. The story of the “Prodigal Son” is one of the most famous stories in the New Testament. To begin, talk about your general thoughts or ideas about this story.

  2. Read the story in Luke 15.

  3. How does the way Fil reframes the common title of this story, saying it is a story of the “Prodigal Father,” affect the way you understand this story? (As Fil points out, “prodigal” means “reckless, extravagant, and lavish.”)

  4. Do you relate more to the younger son or the older son in the story? Discuss what about them you see in yourself.

  5. Jessica and Fil talk about some of the false narratives they have held about God. In your group, talk about some of your false narratives of God.

  6. Have you experienced God’s radical love? If so, how did that experience change your life or reframe your view of God? If not, how do you think such an experience would impact your life?
